Our History

Al Maynard, our founder, was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and after the war returned to the United States and began working as a salesman in a furniture store. In 1947 he opened Maynard Furniture Company in Belton, South Carolina. Over the next decade, the company continued to grow and Al built new showrooms and warehouses to accommodate the popularity of his family run furniture business. By 1960, he had opened an antique store in the popular tourist town of Highlands, North Carolina, and his main business in Belton was expanding.

Al’s son Rex joined the business in 1969 after graduating from Wofford College. The family experimented with various other aspects of the furniture business including Maynard’s Porch, Pool, and Leather Furniture and an additional showroom was opened near Greenville, South Carolina. All the while, the Belton store was continuing to be successful and a carpet warehouse was added to that location. Rex’s son Alderman came into the business in 1999 after graduating from Wofford College. In 2001 Maynard’s added their second location on I-85 in Piedmont, South Carolina. After graduating from Wofford College, Blake Maynard joined the team in 2004. The Back Room was added onto the I-85 location in 2010. Since then, the business has continued on a successful path growing and expanding to meet the needs of the loyal customers we serve.
